A Legacy of Innovation: Yuhchang Electric’s Journey

Founded on April 28, 1967, Yuhchang Electric Co., Ltd. began its journey with a capital of NT$4 million (US$100,000), initially manufacturing chargeable lights, emergency lights, safety lights for mining, and concrete liquid batteries. Over the decades, Yuhchang has evolved into Taiwan’s leading capacitor manufacturer, recognized for its commitment to quality, innovation, and global reach.

Timeline of Major Milestones

  • 1970: Capital increased to NT$6 million (US$150,000). The company adopted advanced foreign technology to produce both high and low voltage capacitors.

  • 1973: Capital reached NT$10 million. Yuhchang was certified as a qualified factory by Taiwan Power Company.

  • 1977: Rated Grade A for export and quality control by the Merchandise Office of Economic Association (MOEA). The Taipei branch was established.

  • 1978: High and low voltage capacitors received CNS Mark No. 2845 and 2846 from the Central Standard Department. The Kaoshiung branch was established.

  • 1979: Capital increased to NT$19 million (US$500,000). Successfully developed square-type capacitors for electrical apparatus.

  • 1983: With NT$30 million (US$750,000) in capital, MF low voltage capacitors were developed.

  • 1985: Developed capacitors for induction cookers and microwave ovens.

  • 1987: Capital reached NT$36 million (US$1,200,000). Factory area expanded by 1,800 square meters. New YE-P dry-type capacitors for internal protection of electrical apparatus were approved by the American UL standard.

  • 1988: Capital increased to NT$50 million (US$1,750,000). Emergency lights received CNS Mark No. 5053.

  • 1990: Capital reached NT$60 million (US$2,220,000). 7.35KV and 14.7KV capacitors certified by Taiwan Power Company.

  • 1992: Capacitors for electrical apparatus approved by the American UL standard. Taoyung branch established.

  • 1994: Capital increased to NT$80 million (US$3 million). S series capacitors for electrical apparatus certified by Germany’s VDE standard. Achieved ISO 9002 quality approval for capacitors.

  • 1997: ISO 9002 certification obtained for emergency lights.

  • 2001: Achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification for capacitors.

  • 2003: Successfully developed round-type aluminum can dry-type low voltage capacitors.

  • 2004: ISO 9001 certification acquired for capacitor banks and module capacitors.

  • 2005: Developed copper-bar conduction cooling high-frequency capacitors. All electric apparatus capacitors conformed to RoHS requirements.

  • 2009: ISO 9001:2008 certification obtained from BSMI.

  • 2010: Introduced new design capacitor banks with individual phase compensation for Taichung new city hall.

  • 2012: CSA and UL 810 AFC 10000A safety approval acquired for YBP capacitors. VDE approval obtained for motor running capacitors (400Vac, 1µF to 7µF, P0, Class B).

  • 2015: Developed downsized oil-type low voltage capacitors with flat elements. Additional UL safety approvals for YFP capacitors.

  • 2016: Upgraded precision C & DF meter for high voltage capacitors. Began producing power electronics capacitors. UL 810 AFC 10000A safety approval for C-type N2-filling low voltage capacitors.

  • 2017: VDE approval with safety S3 and life class C for box-style motor running capacitors (450Vac, 1.5 to 8 µF). Celebrated 50th anniversary. ISO 9001:2015 certification by ETC in Taiwan.

  • 2018: TUV approval for box-style motor running capacitors.

  • 2019: ISO/IEC 17025:2015 and CNS 17025:2018 approval obtained.

  • 2020: UL 810 AFC 10000A safety approval for oil-type low voltage capacitors (up to 525VAC).

  • 2021: VDE approval with safety S3 and life class B for box-style motor running capacitors (400Vac).
